St. Pete and Beyond
St. Pete Beach is located on the sunny Pinellas Peninsula between the Gulf of Mexico on the west and Tampa Bay on the east. This prime location offers vacationers the best of the region—from secluded tropical beaches and breathtaking wildlife, to cutting edge venues, exciting attractions, upbeat nightlife, and historic gems in the urban areas. The area is rich with culture, its Mediterranean-style architecture surrounded by swaying palm trees, bordered by sandy beaches, and brimming over with fun things to see and do. With some one million visitors a year, it’s clear that St. Pete Beach promises plenty of fun in the sun. There are also quieter neighborhoods and nearby towns for those who want to avoid the crowds.
Gulf Coast weather is some of the best in the world. Sunny days, gentle bay breezes, and pleasant temperatures are typical—in fact, St. Pete is known as “The Sunshine City” and holds the Guinness World Record for the most days of consecutive sunshine. In the spring and fall days are pleasantly warm while the evenings can be a bit cooler, and summer months are characterized by warmer temperatures and quick afternoon showers. Temperatures average 74 degrees a year.
No matter the weather, the St. Petersburg/Clearwater area is brimming over with history, culture, and attractions for practically every mood and interest. Made up of 26 communities, all with a unique charm, feel, and heritage, St. Pete and the Tampa Bay area offer an unforgettable vacation experience.
On the southern tip of St. Pete Beach lies Pass-a-Grille, a charming historical district with a flavor that is reminiscent of an Old Florida artists' colony. With beginnings as a fishing village, Pass-a-Grille now thrives as a tourist destination with quaint galleries, restaurants, bed-and-breakfasts, and calming shorelines.
Tarpon Springs is influenced by Greek culture, while the oceanfront town of Dunedin proudly displays its Scottish roots. Clearwater is quiet and somewhat removed, but is also within minutes of many popular Florida attractions (just 30 minutes from Busch Gardens in Tampa and 90 minutes from Walt Disney World Resort, Sea World and Universal Studios Escape in Orlando).
St. Petersburg is home to the Major League Baseball team the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, who play in Tropicana Field downtown. The downtown area also features six world-class museums and more than 20 galleries. St. Pete sees more than 700 events each year including an international sail expo, the annual fall Boat Show, offshore powerboat races, triathlon races, cycling, and running events, so there’s always something unique to check out, no matter the time of year. St. Petersburg's shoreline - a 234-mile stretch - is longer than New Hampshire's and Delaware's combined. Known as the sailing capital of the South, the city's Municipal Marina is the largest in the state.
